Portuguese Way

Buen Camino. Rest here, we'll take care of you.

You are here

Hostal Antolín, right on the route

The Camino Portugués is the second busiest after the Camino Francés. It enters Galicia through Tui, goes up through Porriño and Vigo, and crosses Redondela on its way to Pontevedra. And through Redondela, it passes right by our door.

Aquí convergen la variante central y la variante de la costa: dos caminos que nacen en Portugal y se dan la mano en nuestra villa marinera antes de seguir juntos hasta la Plaza del Obradoiro.

Your first stage

Directions

How to get to the hostel

We are less than ten minutes' walk from the official route of the Camino Portugués in Redondela. Here's how to find us from both directions.

From the Camino

Arriving at the hostel for the night

  1. 1.Upon arriving in Redondela, follow the yellow arrows to the town centre.
  2. 2.Just after passing under the viaducts, instead of following the arrow leading to Arcade, turn right towards Cesantes Beach.
  3. 3.Continue along Paseo da Praia bordering the sea. About 1.2 km / 15 minutes' walk.
  4. 4.You will see us at number 56, opposite the sand. White door, pergola with plants.

Tip: call us when you reach the viaducts. We'll be ready for your reception.

Towards the Camino

Leaving the hostel for Santiago

  1. 1.Upon leaving the hostel, turn left along Paseo da Praia. The estuary will be on your right.
  2. 2.Walk about 1.2 km until you reach the centre of Redondela. You will encounter the viaducts.
  3. 3.Just under the viaducts, rejoin the official yellow arrows of the Camino Portugués heading north (Pontevedra).
  4. 4.Recommended first stop: Arcade, 7 km away. Coffee, breakfast and oysters if you're there in season.

Tip: leave before 8 AM to walk in the shade. This section has no water fountains until Arcade.

At the hostel

We know what those who walk need: rest, good food, basic laundry and to set off again. If you ask when booking, we'll have it ready before you arrive.

Early breakfast

We get up with you. If you have to leave at dawn, we organise breakfast before the usual time so that no one starts the stage on an empty stomach.

Backpack storage

Want to walk light and pick up your backpack when you return? No problem. We'll keep it safe for you on the day you need.

Route advice

We know the coastal variant like the back of our hand. We'll explain on a map the beautiful detours, water fountains, tricky sections and where there's no shade.

Pilgrim's dinner

In the hostel's restaurant, we prepare dishes designed for those who have walked all day: protein, fresh fish, homemade Galician cuisine and no rush.

Credential stamp

Official hostel stamp at reception. Ask for it when checking in or when leaving in the morning: another souvenir for your credential that will take you to Obradoiro.

Safe route

From our door, you can rejoin the Camino without walking on the main road. The natural route runs along the estuary, through fishing villages and riverside sections.

Accommodation on the Portuguese Way — Redondela Stage

Hostal Antolín is located in Redondela (Pontevedra, Galicia), on Paseo da Praia, 56, 1.2 km from the official route of the Camino Portugués. It is the reference accommodation for pilgrims on the Redondela stage of the Camino de Santiago.

From the hostel, the first stage leads to Pontevedra in 20 km (4-5 hours), crossing under the Redondela viaducts —an icon of the Camino— and passing through Arcade, famous for its oysters. The route follows the coastal variant of the Camino Portugués and also connects with the central variant, both converging in Redondela. From Redondela, there are 85 km to Praza do Obradoiro in Santiago de Compostela (4 stages).

The hostel offers private rooms with early breakfast available, backpack storage and credential stamping. Restaurante Antolín serves Galician cuisine of fresh seafood from the Rías Baixas: scallops, small scallops, cuttlefish from Redondela and fresh fish from the Ría de Vigo.

The natural surroundings include Cesantes Beach (more than 2 km of sandy beach in the Ensenada de San Simón), Isla de San Simón (historic heritage, visible from the beach) and Monte A Peneda with panoramic views of the estuary. Cesantes train station is 350 m from the hostel.

"The Camino is not made. It is lived."
