Where the Ría de Vigo stretches inland and history settles on every stone.
We are on Cesantes Beach, at the very end of the Ensenada de San Simón. From here you can swim at the beach at dawn, climb to the A Peneda viewpoint before lunch, explore the old town of Redondela in the afternoon and dine on freshly caught seafood. All without needing a car. For those arriving on foot via the Camino Portugués, our house is right on the route.
Cesantes Beach
More than two kilometres of sandy beach a few steps from the hostel. A serene natural environment in the heart of the Ensenada de San Simón, a refuge for birds and a silent witness to the Camino to Santiago.
Isla de San Simón
An islet steeped in history in the heart of the estuary: Templars, lazarettos, living memory. It can be seen every morning from the beach and is one of the most photographed spots in the Rías Baixas.
Redondela Old Town
Streets and squares with a medieval layout, the viaducts, the church, the Vilavella Convent. A peaceful stroll through the fishing village, with wineries, taverns and a seafood market.
Monte A Peneda
On the border between Redondela and Soutomaior stands one of the viewpoints with the best views of the Ría de Vigo. A short climb rewarded with the entire horizon on the other side.
Cascada da Feixa
In the parish of Reboreda, a hidden corner among oaks and ferns. The Council enhanced the place in 2014; today it is a perfect short route for an afternoon getaway.
Museo Meirande
Dedicated to the maritime history of the Ría de Vigo: the battles of Rande, the galleons, the sunken treasures. Essential to understand why this estuary has marked so many centuries of Galicia.
In Cesantes you can go paddle surfing, kayaking, kitesurfing, wingfoiling, windsurfing, e-foiling or simply swim in tranquil waters protected by the island. There are local schools with equipment hire and lessons for all levels; we can help you book from the hostel.
